Heavy Police Activity Closes Hillairy Avenue in Morristown Amid "Active Investigation"
Officials remain tight-lipped but assure no immediate threat to the public; residents evacuated as multi-agency presence descends on neighborhood.
Morristown, NJ — Hillairy Avenue in Morristown remains closed as a multi-agency investigation, involving law enforcement's bomb squad, K-9 units, and hostage negotiation teams, continues since Wednesday morning. Authorities are providing few details but confirm that the investigation is "active."
According to Meghan Knab, a spokesperson for the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, "There is no danger to the public at this time, however, the public is asked to avoid the area." Members of the Prosecutor's Office, the Morris County Sheriff's Office, Morristown police, Morristown Fire Department, an ambulance from Atlantic Health, and utility crews from Public Service Electric & Gas have all been observed on the scene.
Timeline and Presence
The investigation began early Wednesday morning, and personnel were still actively involved as of lunchtime. A resident of Hillairy Avenue, who identified herself only as Amber, told reporters that authorities began arriving around 10 a.m. Residents near a specific residence about halfway down the street were subsequently evacuated.
"They didn't really tell us too much, just 'no kids, and nobody's in danger,'" Amber said. Authorities have also cautioned, "This may take awhile."
Unusual Activity
On-the-scene resources included a drone and a field command truck, as reported by Amber. She also mentioned that firefighters had attached hoses to a fire hydrant, though no further details on this action were available.
Longtime resident Amber described Hillairy Avenue as "a good street, a nice family neighborhood," adding, "This is the most action I've seen here."
As the situation remains fluid, residents are advised to stay clear of Hillairy Avenue until further notice. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
