Philadelphia Quartet Charged in $1.6 Million UPS Burglary Spree Spanning Over Two Years

Morristown, NJ – In a startling revelation, four Philadelphia residents face charges for allegedly conducting a sophisticated burglary operation, targeting United Parcel Service (UPS) warehouses across the United States, including in New Jersey. The accused are implicated in a series of thefts amounting to an estimated $1.6 million in lost merchandise, according to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger.

Aboudramane Karamoko, Sekou Fofanah, and brothers Shamaire and Quamaire Brown, all in their late teens to early twenties, were apprehended following a detailed investigation. They face charges of conspiracy to commit cargo theft, with their alleged criminal activities spanning from January 2021 through April 2023. This intricate scheme involved break-ins at approximately 55 UPS facilities, including several in New Jersey.

The group allegedly specialized in stealing high-value items, particularly electronic devices, by identifying packages marked with “lithium-ion battery” warnings. Their modus operandi included breaking into UPS facilities, usually during late Saturday nights or early Sunday mornings, and swiftly fleeing upon law enforcement's arrival. On at least one occasion, their haul included a firearm.

Each defendant, if convicted, faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 or double the theft amount, whichever is higher.

This extensive investigation was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including Homeland Security Investigations Newark and local police departments in several states. The charges brought forth are mere accusations at this stage, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
