Pulaski Skyway temporary stoppages in both directions tonight

NJDOT Announces Short-Term Pulaski Skyway Closures for Rehabilitation Work; Motorists Advised to Opt for Alternate Routes

MORRISTOWN, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has alerted motorists of upcoming temporary closures on the Pulaski Skyway. This essential move, set for tonight, is part of the ongoing rehabilitation efforts for the 92-year-old structure in Jersey City.

Starting at 11:59 PM, Friday, January 26, until 5 AM the following morning, the Skyway will experience multiple closures, each lasting 10 to 15 minutes. These closures, affecting both directions of the bridge, are crucial for the replacement of truss bearings at span 54 near the Broadway Avenue ramp.

NJDOT officials recommend utilizing the NJ Turnpike-Hudson County Extension as an alternative route. This suggestion aims to alleviate potential delays for travelers heading towards the Holland Tunnel, I-78, or I-280/Route 7, as well as Route 1&9 Truck southbound. Route 1&9 Truck will also serve as a detour for other motorists.

The ongoing work is a segment of Contract 8B, a significant phase in the Pulaski Skyway rehabilitation project. NJDOT is strategically coordinating this project alongside other regional transportation infrastructure developments to reduce traffic disruptions.

In light of these closures, NJDOT maintains open lines of communication for public inquiries or concerns. The department has provided a hotline (973-776-7400) and an email (Pulaski.Skyway@dot.nj.gov) for this purpose. The community is encouraged to reach out to the Project Outreach Team for any further information or assistance.

While the scheduled work is set for tonight, NJDOT notes that the timing may vary due to weather conditions or other unforeseen factors. Commuters are advised to plan accordingly and consider alternative routes to ensure a smooth journey during this temporary disruption.
