Joseph Whritenour's roots in Boonton run deep. Growing up in a family of eight on Birch Street, he has been a lifelong resident and an active member of the community. His journey of service began with the Junior Fire Department in 1979, eventually leading to his membership in the Boonton Fire Department in 1982. Whritenour's bravery and skill were particularly noted during his tenure as Fire Chief from 2000 to 2001, a period marked by significant contributions to public safety and community wellbeing.

Beyond his service in the fire department, Whritenour's dedication to Boonton's youth is remarkable. His involvement in coaching Little League baseball and softball teams, as well as Grayhawk football teams, has left a lasting impact on the town's young athletes. Since 2013, he has also served as the Boonton High School (BHS) Booster President and has been an active football parent, showcasing his commitment to supporting and nurturing young talent in sports.
