Morris County Bolsters Emergency Preparedness with Advanced Rescue Task Force

Comprehensive Training and Equipment to Tackle Severe Emergencies and Mass Casualty Incidents

Morristown, NJ: The Morris County Rescue Task Force (RTF) Program, an initiative enhancing local emergency response capabilities, continues to equip and train first responders for dire situations like active shooter incidents. This program, developed through collaborations between various county offices and emergency services, aims to improve preparedness for high-casualty events.

Scott DiGiralomo, Morris County Law and Public Safety Director, highlighted the distribution of specialized RTF equipment to municipalities under a Memorandum of Understanding. This equipment fosters a partnership between police and local first responders, ensuring rapid and effective response in life-threatening situations.

Ross Johnson, President of the Morris County Police Chiefs Association (MCPCA), emphasized the program's design to integrate police, fire, EMS, and OEM teams, facilitating immediate life-saving aid and swift patient transportation in critical emergencies.

Sheriff James M. Gannon linked the RTF initiative with the Morris County Sheriff's Office Responsible School Violence Prevention, Preparation, Protection (RSVP-3) program. The RSVP-3, created after the 2018 Florida school shooting, focuses on rapid life-saving measures in mass casualty situations.

Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Morris County OEM and EMS Coordinator Jeffrey Paul stressed the importance of integrating civilian emergency responders with law enforcement to provide immediate medical intervention without compromising safety. The RTF program equips responders to efficiently manage injuries and save lives in high-threat incidents.

Morris County Commissioner Douglas Cabana expressed the county's commitment to preparedness, highlighting the critical nature of being ready for any potential crisis.

The RTF Program has received robust support from the Board of County Commissioners and local leaders. Morris County Commissioner Stephen Shaw revealed plans to expand the initiative in 2024, including equipping county ambulances with RTF gear, thus enhancing countywide readiness.
