Madison & The Chathams Community Yard Sale: A Guide to Sustainable Shopping and Selling
A Triple-Town Treasure Hunt Awaits This May
Madison and The Chathams are gearing up for a community-wide yard sale event that promises to turn one person’s trash into another’s treasure. Set for May 4th, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, with a rain date on Sunday, May 5, this event is a perfect opportunity for residents of Chatham Township, Chatham Borough, and Madison to declutter their homes and for treasure hunters from near and far to find unique items.
Registration Is Key: To ensure your sale items and address are highlighted on the digital map, register by the deadline on Wednesday, May 1st, at 11:30 PM. A $10 tax-deductible donation is required for registration, with proceeds benefiting the Great Swamp Watershed Association. This nominal fee ensures widespread publicity of the event across New Jersey and even Pennsylvania, leveraging local media and popular garage sale sites.
Digital Map for Easy Navigation: Check back here on May 3 for a digital, printable map featuring all yard sale participants and a detailed list of sale items. This map will be your guide to exploring the vast offerings across the three towns, ensuring you don’t miss out on any hidden gems.
Why Join the Map? Participation in previous years has shown that being featured on the map significantly increases visitor traffic, drawing shoppers from across the region. However, residents of The Chathams and Madison are free to host sales independently, without inclusion on the map.
No Permit, No Problem: The usual permit fee has been waived for this event, making it even easier for residents to join the fun.
Visibility Matters: Even if you're on the digital map, putting up signs can attract passersby and additional customers, enhancing your sale's success.
Zero Waste Goal: In line with the community’s commitment to sustainability, organizers encourage participants to donate unsold items to local organizations ready to pick up leftovers, including the Vietnam Veterans of America, Lupus Foundation of America, GreenDrop, Market Street Mission (for clothing), and Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore for a variety of goods.
This yard sale is more than just a chance to find bargains—it's a community effort towards sustainable living and supporting a great cause. Whether you’re clearing out your space or searching for unique finds, the Madison & The Chathams town-wide yard sale is an event you won’t want to miss. Mark your calendars, prepare your sale items, and get ready to shop sustainably!
