Honoring Morris Township's Hometown Heroes

From Mayor of Morris Township Mark Gyorfy -

Dear Neighbor,

Morris Township is partnering with American Legion Post 59 and the Morristown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to recognize, honor and pay tribute to our local veterans and servicemembers through the Morris Township Hometown Heroes Program.

We invite all veterans, families of living or deceased veterans, or current servicemembers that reside or have resided in Morris Township to submit an application for a banner honoring our hometown heroes. You can see an example here. Banners will be displayed on light poles located at the Township Municipal Building, Ginty Field, Dwyer Lane, and Convent Station annually during the months of May and November to commemorate Memorial and Veterans Days.

Banners will be created for a donation of $200 to American Legion Post 59. Families or individuals wishing to honor a veteran, but are unable to make a financial commitment, may be eligible for to receive a banner through a sponsorship.

We are accepting sponsorships from individuals, families, organizations and businesses for the production of these banners. Please fill out a Sponsorship Application Form if you wish to financially support this effort.

Applications for banners will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline to apply for a banner to be printed for Memorial Day is March 29, 2024. Applicants may be requested to provide proof of military service if the Township of Morris is unable to confirm dates of service through a public records search.

Here is how to apply for a banner:

  1. Complete the following application: Fillable PDF Application
  2. Make a check out to: American Legion Post 59
  3. Drop the application and check off at the Township Municipal Building foyer OR mail them to the mailing address listed on this page.
  4. Submit a digital file of a military portrait of the veteran/servicemember by email to: administration@morristwp.com or morristwpnj@gmail.com. If you are unable to send a digital file of the photo, please submit one with your application and check.

Sincerely,

Mayor of Morris Township Mark Gyorfy
