Overnight Lane Closures on Route 202 in Somerset County Through Summer 2024
Pavement preservation project to impact traffic from Branchburg to Bedminster.
NEW JERSEY – Motorists traveling on Route 202 in Somerset County will face overnight lane closures in both directions starting tonight, as a major pavement preservation project gets underway. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced that the closures will affect the stretch from Chubb Way/CR 646 in Branchburg to the I-287 interchange in Bedminster.
Starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, until 6 a.m. Thursday, May 2, and continuing nightly from Monday through Friday, a single lane on Route 202 northbound and southbound will be closed. This schedule is expected to remain in effect throughout the summer of 2024. The closures are essential for milling and paving operations. NJDOT assures that at least one lane will remain open, and access to all ramps will be maintained during the project.
As the project progresses, ramp repaving will necessitate signed detours for motorists. NJDOT advises drivers to slow down, use caution, and prepare for potential delays when passing through the work zone.
This work is part of an $8.5 million federally funded initiative aimed at improving approximately ten miles of Route 202 in the area. In addition to road resurfacing, the project includes milling and paving ramps within the project limits, reconstructing curbs and sidewalks to meet ADA standards, and upgrading traffic signals and lighting.
Completion of the project is targeted for fall 2024, although the precise timing of the work may vary due to weather or other unforeseen factors. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed about real-time travel conditions by visiting NJDOT’s traffic information website at www.511nj.org.
