Daytime Closures Scheduled for Jones Road Bridge Over Route 4 in Englewood

Motorists advised to expect delays or seek alternate routes during bridge replacement project.

(TRENTON) – Starting next week, northbound traffic on Jones Road Bridge over Route 4 in Englewood, Bergen County, will experience lane closures due to a significant bridge replacement project. The $20.7 million federally funded initiative aims to enhance the bridge's structure, including raising its height by approximately three feet to resolve under-clearance issues affecting Route 4.

From Monday, May 13, lane closures will occur daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, over the next several weeks. These closures are necessary for the installation of a water main as part of the ongoing construction efforts. Despite the closure of one lane, alternating traffic will be maintained on Jones Road to facilitate continuous flow during construction hours.

Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to exercise caution, reduce speed, and expect potential delays. Planning an alternate route is advisable to avoid the construction zone during these times.

The completion of the bridge replacement is anticipated by the summer of 2025, but the schedule may adjust based on weather conditions or other unforeseen factors. Travelers can stay informed about real-time traffic updates by visiting the NJDOT traffic information website at www.511nj.org. This project is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure and safety on New Jersey’s roadways.
