I-287 Lane Closures for Pavement Preservation Project, Until Fall

Overnight lane closures are scheduled in both directions on I-287 for paving and restriping in Morris County

(Morristown) – I-287 will experience overnight lane closures in both directions over the next several months, from I-80 in Parsippany-Troy Hills to Route 202 in Montville, as part of a pavement preservation project in Morris County.

Starting tonight, Monday, May 20, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, and continuing nightly Monday through Friday until mid-summer 2024, a single lane on I-287 northbound and southbound will be closed between I-80 and Route 202, with a second lane closing at 10 p.m. each night. These closures are essential for restriping and paving the roadway. At least one lane will remain open during the construction. Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and anticipate delays while driving through the work zone.

This project is part of a $5.5 million federally funded effort to preserve approximately five miles of pavement using High-Performance Thin Overlay (HPTO) on I-287. The project includes paving most ramps within the project limits and is expected to be completed by fall 2024.

The exact timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
