Washington Township Man Sentenced to Eight Years for Distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material

John Green faces long-term prison and lifetime parole supervision after maintaining a peer-to-peer network for illegal content.

MORRISTOWN, NJ – Morris County authorities have confirmed the sentencing of John Green, a 66-year-old resident of Washington Township, to eight years in New Jersey State Prison for his role in distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) through a peer-to-peer file-sharing network. The sentencing was announced by Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, alongside Chief of Detectives Robert McNally and Washington Township Police Chief Jeffrey Almer.

On January 26, 2024, Green pled guilty to third-degree possession of CSAM. Subsequently, on May 31, 2024, Judge Ralph Amirata of the Superior Court mandated Green's prison term along with registration under Megan’s Law and life-long parole supervision.

This case emerged from an operation targeting CSAM distribution across peer-to-peer networks. Initial leads were developed by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, which detected potential illegal activity on a BitTorrent site within Morris County. The case was then escalated to the Morris County Prosecutor’s ICAC Task Force, part of the Sex Crimes / Child Endangerment Unit.

Investigators discovered numerous files on Green’s BitTorrent network, all containing explicit material involving minors. Subsequent searches at Green’s residence led to the seizure of over 1,000 suspected CSAM files from his personal computer.

Green was apprehended on June 2, 2023, and has been held at the Morris County Correctional Facility under the stipulations of the Criminal Justice Reform Act pending his trial and sentencing.

Prosecutor Carroll expressed gratitude towards the collaborative efforts of the Hunterdon and Warren County Prosecutor’s Offices, the New Jersey State Police, the Washington Township Police Department, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office ICAC Task Force, which were instrumental in bringing this case to a close.
