Bear Resistant Garbage Can Distribution, Rockaway Township

Rockaway Township has agreed to participate in the NJDEP Pilot Program of Bear Resistant Can distribution. The NJDEP has provided the township with 457 64-gallon bear-resistant cans to distribute to Blue Diamond customers who live in Rockaway Township.

Bear Resistant garbage cans will be available at the Township Garage for distribution as follows:
Blue Diamond Customers from the intersection of Sanders Road at Green Pond Road North to the northern township border from August 14 – August 17 – 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Starting August 19th and until all of the cans are gone any remaining cans will be available to all Blue Diamond customers who reside within Rockaway Township. Cans will be distributed Monday – Saturday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm at the Township Road Garage.

In order to be eligible to receive a free bear-resistant can residents MUST:
- Agree to participate in Surveys from the DEP regarding the bear-resistant can pilot program. Residents must fill out a contact card for the DEP
- Show Driver’s License for proof of residency
- Show a current blue diamond bill/invoice

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to contact Blue Diamond regarding the return of the former contracted cans. Do not bring your Blue Diamond can to the township garage, they will not be accepted. 

In addition, the cans that are being supplied by the DEP are 64 gallons. If Blue Diamond customers have a contract with Blue Diamond for 96-gallon service, they must call Blue Diamond to discuss changing the terms of their contract. As stated earlier, any resident who wishes to obtain a DEP-supplied-can must be willing to participate in NJDEP surveys/questionnaires.
