Safety Upgrades Planned at Morris St. and Ridgedale Ave. Intersection
Online Public Information Meeting Scheduled for Oct. 9
Morris County is receiving Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program Funds from the Federal Highway Administration through the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) for the design, construction and construction inspection services for safety improvements at the Morris Street (CR 510) and Ridgedale Avenue intersection in Morristown.
“This project is essential to enhancing safety at a key intersection in Morristown. The funding enables critical upgrades that will protect both pedestrians and drivers while improving traffic flow and accessibility. These improvements will benefit residents by creating a safer, more efficient roadway for all,” said Stephen H. Shaw, Deputy Director of the Morris County Board of County Commissioners and Secretary of the NJTPA Board.
Proposed Intersection Improvements include:
- Replacement of the traffic signal system
- Lighting upgrades
- Widening Ridgedale Avenue for dual left-turn lanes and a dedicated right-turn lane
- Improved corner radii for truck and bus turning
- Reconstruction of sidewalks and curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards

The intersection located near landmarks such as the Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown Library and Morristown Train Station, is a critical access point for local and commuter traffic. The improvements follow recommendations from a Road Safety Audit (RSA) conducted in November 2019. The full RSA report is available at njtpa.org/rsa.
