Morris Plains Man Charged with Online Death Threat Against Political Commentator
Haim Braverman accused of posting threats against a public commentator over remarks on a deceased rabbi.
MORRIS PLAINS, NJ - Haim Braverman, 45, of Morris Plains, New Jersey, was charged on October 29, 2024, with one count of transmitting a threat in interstate and foreign commerce. Braverman, who appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge James B. Clark III in Newark federal court, was remanded after his initial appearance. The charge, announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger, follows an alleged death threat Braverman posted online in response to comments made by a political commentator about a prominent, recently deceased rabbi.
According to court filings and statements, Braverman allegedly posted a video on a social media platform on September 10, 2024, in which he made explicit threats against the commentator, indicating he would use a bat to harm her. In the video, Braverman reportedly said, “You’ll get what’s coming to you…if I could fking kill you right now, I would…fk it I’ll give you the steel bat. I wouldn’t even stop. I’d kill you. Dead…I’m threatening a death sentence against [the commentator].” In addition, Braverman allegedly commented in writing, “[the commentator] needs to be killed.” He also reportedly sent an audio message in a group chat, saying, “I will go to prison, gladly find her and kill her… I am outraged.”
If convicted, Braverman faces a statutory maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for transmitting a threat across state or foreign lines.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Nelson I. Delgado in Newark, along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff James Gannon. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sammi Malek of the National Security Unit in Newark is representing the government in this case.
These allegations remain accusations, and Braverman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
