Deptford Man Sentenced to Six Years for Drug and Firearm Offenses

Javier Osorio received a 72-month prison sentence after a conviction on drug trafficking and firearms charges in federal court.

NEWARK, N.J. — Javier Osorio, 44, of Deptford, New Jersey, was sentenced to six years in federal prison on October 29, 2024, following his conviction for drug distribution and firearms charges. U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti issued the sentence in Newark after a jury found Osorio guilty of conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, and multiple firearms violations.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed Osorio’s involvement in a conspiracy to distribute significant quantities of heroin and cocaine. Authorities recovered over one kilogram of heroin from Osorio’s apartment and an additional quantity from a vehicle in which he and his accomplices were en route to Brooklyn. During a search, law enforcement officers also found a stolen loaded firearm hidden under Osorio’s mattress, further complicating his charges.

Alongside the prison sentence, Osorio was given three years of supervised release. This case is part of a larger investigation led by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a federal program targeting criminal organizations engaged in high-level drug trafficking.

U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger commended the efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration, under Special Agent Cheryl Ortiz, and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, which contributed to the successful prosecution of this case.
