From JCP&L -
JCP&L is continuously monitoring conditions that can lead to wildfires.
We are cooperating closely with your local fire, police and OEM officials to coordinate efforts in wildfire prevention and response.
We are taking proactive steps to minimize the potential for power lines to contribute to the ignition or spread of fire during these critical conditions while also ensuring the continued delivery of safe and reliable power. These precautionary measures themselves do not disrupt service to customers.
At this time, there are no outages linked to active fires.
JCP&L is encouraging the public to keep informed during Red Flag Warnings and to take steps to prevent the ignition and spread of wildfires. This includes:
- Abiding by the burn restrictions currently in place.
- Avoiding the use of outdoor equipment that may cause sparks.
- Removing any dead shrubbery around your house that could maintain a fire and keeping your vehicle off dry grass.
- Disposing of cigarettes or matches properly. Do not throw them out of a moving vehicle. They may ignite dry grass on the side of the road and become a wildfire.
- Keeping your phones and mobile devices charged and making sure you know where loved ones — especially people with disabilities or mobility issues — are located during the day.
- Staying updated on weather conditions and heeding any safety alerts issued by local authorities.
- Install smoke detectors if needed or replace batteries in existing detectors. Considering purchasing fire extinguisher(s) for your home.
By taking these steps together, we can help protect our community from the threat of wildfires.
