NJ Labor Department Adds Businesses to ‘The WALL’ for Unpaid Worker Liabilities

Companies must settle $295,335 in fines and contributions or face public contract bans

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) recently listed nine additional businesses on its Workplace Accountability in Labor List, known as “The WALL.” This action raises the total number of companies on The WALL to 217, each barred from state, county, and local government contracting due to unresolved wage, benefit, or tax law violations. The recently added businesses owe a combined total of $295,335.34 in liabilities to the state’s Unemployment Compensation Fund and State Disability Benefits Fund.

The WALL, launched in September 2023, aims to enforce compliance among employers by publicly identifying those who have not fulfilled their financial obligations to workers or state funds. Now in its second year, the initiative represents a significant effort to prevent worker misclassification and ensure fair business practices across New Jersey. Together, the businesses currently listed owe $22.75 million, either directly to workers or to the state.

The businesses added in October include:

  • Art of Beauty Salon Spa LLC (West New York) - $25,335.34
  • Budget Paving & Mason Contracting, Inc. (Toms River) - $45,000
  • Chamanti Enterprises Inc. (Elizabeth) - $45,000
  • Fast CL Transportation LLC (Haledon) - $45,000
  • Freedom of Choice Health Care, Inc. (Union City) - $45,000
  • Lazah Paradise Import-Export Corp (Paterson) - $45,000
  • Shadow Racing Products Inc. (Woodland Park) - $45,000

Under The WALL initiative, companies receive warning letters providing 20 days to resolve their liabilities before being publicly listed. To date, NJDOL has successfully collected $558,216.38 from businesses previously warned or posted on The WALL.

The WALL serves as a critical tool in holding companies accountable, allowing government procurement officers at all levels to cross-check listed businesses before awarding public contracts. Additional penalties, including contractor debarment and business license suspension, may also be applied to companies found in violation.
