Federal Inmate Receives Additional 10-Year Sentence for Possessing Child Pornography Behind Bars
Defendant was already serving a 10-year term for similar offenses when new child porn was discovered.
Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna announced that Daniel Baldwin, 33, was sentenced today to an additional 10 years in prison after corrections officers at a New Jersey federal correctional institution found him in possession of child pornography while he was already serving time for a prior child pornography conviction. U.S. District Judge Karen M. Williams imposed the new sentence, to run consecutively with his existing 10-year term.
Key Facts:
Baldwin was previously convicted in 2018 of possessing child pornography and was serving a 10-year sentence.
In June 2022, corrections officers found a hidden SD card in Baldwin’s clothing, revealing “hundreds of images and videos of child pornography, including depictions of prepubescent minors.”
Baldwin pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler to one count of possession of child pornography. Judge Williams imposed an additional 10-year prison term and seven years of supervised release.
Investigation and Prosecution
Acting U.S. Attorney Khanna credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Brian J. Driscoll, with the investigation. He also acknowledged the staff at FCI Fort Dix for their assistance. The government’s case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel A. Friedman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Criminal Division in Camden.
With this sentence, Baldwin faces a total of 20 years behind bars, underscoring the seriousness of sexual offenses involving minors and the enhanced penalties for offenders who persist in such crimes while incarcerated.
