Parsippany Man Sentenced to 180 Days for Child Sexual Abuse Material Possession

Defendant must register as a sex offender and undergo strict probation conditions after pleading guilty.

MORRIS COUNTY – A 49-year-old man from Parsippany Troy-Hills, previously residing in Butler at the time of the offense, has been sentenced for possessing child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Butler Police Chief Scott RickerScott Morley received a 180-day sentence at the Morris County Correctional Facility, though he is required to serve 45 days initially as part of a two-year probation term. Upon his release, Morley must submit to electronic device monitoring and refrain from unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.

On July 1, 2024, Morley pleaded guilty to Endangering the Welfare of a Child (possession of CSAM), a third-degree charge in New Jersey. He acknowledged keeping illegal images of minors on his computer. Superior Court Judge Stephen J. Taylor imposed the 45-day custodial portion—part of a broader 180-day sentence—on February 13, 2025, after which Morley was remanded to begin serving time on February 14.

Following confinement, Morley will be placed on two years of probation. He must also:

  • Undergo device monitoring for Internet usage.
  • Avoid unsupervised interactions with minors under age 18.

Such restrictions are commonly imposed to ensure that offenders do not re-offend, especially in cases of child exploitation or endangerment.

The case began when the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received an anonymous tip that Morley might possess child pornography. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators found child sexual abuse material on his personal computer. The Butler Police Department assisted in the investigation, which ultimately led to Morley’s arrest, guilty plea, and sentencing.

Officials praise the cooperative work of law enforcement agencies, including the ICAC Task Force, for swiftly responding to the community tip. Prosecutor Carroll credited the Butler Police Department with stopping Morley’s criminal activities, stressing that vigilance and thorough investigation can make a crucial difference in safeguarding children from exploitation.
