Widespread Roadwork Continues Across Morris County As I-80 Emergency Construction Continues
As of Monday morning, multiple active construction zones are affecting major routes including I-80, NJ 24, NJ 23, and US 46, causing lane closures and traffic detours through the region.
Emergency construction continues to fully shut down Interstate 80 in both directions near Exit 34 (NJ Route 15) in Wharton. All lanes are still closed and traffic is being detoured - further updates here.
This emergency project is part of a broader network of ongoing roadwork throughout Morris County and surrounding areas, impacting key commuter routes during peak weekday travel.
In addition to the full I-80 closure, a separate scheduled construction project is underway on I-80 eastbound at the same interchange, with the right shoulder closed until 3:00 p.m.
Other major construction updates across the region include:
NJ Route 24: Eastbound between I-287 and east of that interchange in Morris Township, the left lane remains closed until 2:00 p.m. Westbound at Exit 2 (CR 510/Columbia Turnpike) in Hanover Township, one right lane is closed until 4:00 p.m.
NJ Route 23: Southbound between CR 618 (Kinnelon Rd/Keil Rd) in Butler and north of Alexander Avenue in Pequannock Township, the right lane is closed until 3:00 p.m. Northbound in the same area, closures extend until 4:00 p.m.
I-287: Southbound and northbound near Exit 52 (NJ 23) in Pequannock Township, right shoulders are closed on both sides of the highway until 3:00 p.m.
US Route 46: Eastbound and westbound near I-287 in Parsippany-Troy Hills, right lanes are closed through 3:00 p.m. Westbound from Parsippany-Troy Hills through Denville and Mountain Lakes, multiple stretches have right shoulder closures until 3:00 p.m.
Motorists traveling in and around Morristown and the greater Morris County area should expect delays and plan alternate routes where possible. Detour signage is posted, and travelers are advised to monitor real-time traffic updates through state transportation channels.
