Washington Street Streetscape Project to Begin May 5 in Morristown

Three-month infrastructure upgrade includes new sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping along Burnham Park and southern Washington Street.

A new phase of the Washington Street Streetscape Improvements project is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 5, bringing upgraded curbs, sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping to a key corridor along the southern side of Washington Street, including the Burnham Park frontage.

The work, led by contractor AA Berms, LLC, marks Phase V of the ongoing initiative to enhance the pedestrian and aesthetic infrastructure of Morristown. Construction will stretch from Hillcrest Avenue to the town limit, with an expected duration of approximately three months.

Work hours will run from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though activities directly involving the roadway will be restricted to 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to minimize commuter disruption.

During construction, the sidewalk within the active work zone will be closed during work hours, and lane shifts will be implemented to maintain traffic flow. Despite the construction, access to all homes, businesses, and adjacent streets will be maintained throughout the project.

The improvements are part of a broader streetscape revitalization effort by local officials aimed at enhancing walkability, safety, and neighborhood appeal in Morristown’s key thoroughfares.
