Overturned Tractor Trailer Closes I-80 Eastbound in Rockaway Township; Widespread Road Construction Continues Across Morris County

A major incident and multiple construction projects are impacting travel across key roadways in Morris County, with traffic disruptions expected throughout the day.

As of 1:22 p.m., all lanes of Interstate 80 eastbound at Exit 37 (CR 513/Hibernia Avenue) in Rockaway Township are closed due to an overturned tractor-trailer. No additional information regarding injuries, cause, or estimated reopening has been provided at this time. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and expect delays in the surrounding areas.

In addition to the I-80 closure, extensive road construction is affecting several major corridors across the county, scheduled to last through 3:00 p.m. today, June 2:

• US 46 westbound:

  • At CR 654/Cherry Hill Road in Parsippany-Troy Hills: left lane closed.

  • Between Mountain Lakes Blvd (CR 618) and NJ 53 in Denville: right shoulder closed.

  • At NJ 53 in Denville: right shoulder closed.

• US 46 eastbound:

  • Between NJ 53 in Denville and CR 618 in Mountain Lakes: right shoulder closed.

  • At NJ 53 in Denville: right shoulder closed.

• NJ 15 northbound between Espanong Road (NJ 181)/Weldon Road in Jefferson Township and Main Street in Sparta Township: right lane closed.

• NJ 124 westbound at Roosevelt Avenue/Minton Avenue in Chatham: all lanes open during construction hours.

• NJ 53 southbound at US 46 in Denville Township: one of two right lanes closed.

• I-287 northbound between I-80 (Exit 41) in Parsippany-Troy Hills and Vreeland Avenue (Exit 45) in Montville Township: right shoulder closed.

• NJ 23 northbound near Cotluss Road in Riverdale: right shoulder closed.

Additionally, overnight construction on I-80 in Wharton continues through June 25:

• Westbound: one of three left lanes closed until 12:00 p.m.

• Eastbound: one of three left lanes closed until 10:00 p.m.
