Daytime Construction Projects Impact Major Morris County Highways

Lane closures are scheduled across NJ 23, US 46, I-80, I-287, and NJ 124, with most restrictions in effect until 3:00 p.m. today.

Multiple roadwork operations are underway today, June 6, affecting several major highways in Morris County and surrounding areas, with lane closures expected to last into the afternoon. The construction projects are being conducted by the New Jersey Department of Transportation and affiliated agencies, targeting improvements along key commuter and freight corridors.

US 46 has multiple active construction zones:

  • Parsippany-Troy Hills Township: The westbound left lane is closed near CR 654/Cherry Hill Road until 3:00 p.m.

  • Rockaway Township: The westbound right shoulder is closed between CR 644/Main Street and CR 513/West Main Street, also until 3:00 p.m.

  • Denville Township and Mountain Lakes: On the eastbound side, the right shoulder is closed from west of NJ 53 to west of CR 618/Mountain Lakes Boulevard. Similarly, on the westbound side, shoulder closures are active in the vicinity of NJ 53 and between west of CR 618 and NJ 53. All are scheduled to conclude by 3:00 p.m.

On NJ Route 23, in Jefferson Township extending into West Milford Township, the southbound left lane is closed from south of CR 513/Green Road to CR 513/Union Valley Road. This restriction is also in place until 3:00 p.m.

In Chatham, NJ Route 124 westbound near Roosevelt Avenue and Minton Avenue is undergoing roadwork. All lanes remain open, but work is expected to continue until 3:00 p.m.

I-287 northbound between south of Exit 41 (I-80) in Parsippany-Troy Hills and north of Exit 45 (Vreeland Avenue) in Montville Township is under construction, with the right shoulder closed through 3:00 p.m.

On I-80, construction is scheduled through the end of the month:

  • Wharton: One left lane of three is closed at Exit 34 (NJ 15) westbound until 12:00 p.m. on June 25, and on the eastbound side, the same location will have a lane closed until 10:00 p.m. on June 25.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and anticipate potential delays during peak travel hours. The projects are part of routine roadway maintenance and infrastructure upgrades designed to improve long-term traffic flow and safety across the region.
