Berkshire Valley Road Bridge Repairs Begin July 14 in Roxbury

Traffic reduced to one lane as Morris County undertakes three-week structural project under the Dover & Rockaway River Railroad crossing.

Repairs to the Berkshire Valley Road bridge in Roxbury Township are scheduled to begin today, Monday, July 14, according to the Morris County Division of Engineering and Transportation. The three-week project will focus on structural steel repairs and is expected to conclude by early August, weather permitting.

The bridge, designated as No. 14C4237, supports the Dover & Rockaway River Railroad and spans Berkshire Valley Road. It is a single-span structure made of riveted steel-through girders, floor beams, open timber tie decking, and steel stringers. The upcoming repair work will concentrate on reinforcing the floor beam-to-girder connections using steel angles to enhance structural integrity.

Construction will occur weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. During this period, one lane of alternating traffic will be maintained through the work zone with the aid of temporary traffic signals. Motorists should anticipate delays and are advised to consider alternate routes where possible.

The repair contract, awarded to Sparwick Contracting Inc. of Lafayette, N.J., is valued at $153,401 and is fully funded by Morris County.

The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Questions or concerns may be directed to the Morris County Division of Engineering and Transportation at 973-285-6750.
