Edward M. O’Hagan, 51, received a 194-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to transporting and possessing child sexual abuse material.

Edward M. O’Hagan, 51, of Hawthorne, was sentenced to 194 months in federal prison for transporting and possessing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced Friday. U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo handed down the sentence in Newark federal court.

According to court records, investigators identified O’Hagan through two email accounts linked to his address. On January 19, 2023, he transmitted video files containing child pornography via the internet and used an encrypted file storage platform to upload additional illicit material.

A search of O’Hagan’s residence on May 22, 2023, resulted in the seizure of hundreds of images and videos depicting child sexual abuse on his electronic devices.

In addition to the prison term, O’Hagan was sentenced to lifetime supervised release and ordered to pay $86,000 in restitution to the victims.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Newark Division, with assistance from the Hawthorne Police Department and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Farhana C. Melo and Aaron L. Webman of the Economic Crimes Unit in Newark.
