Nine Businesses Shamed on N.J. ‘WALL’ for Wage, Benefit, and Tax Violations
State initiative now lists 289 employers barred from public contracts until debts are paid in full.
TRENTON – The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has added nine businesses to its Workplace Accountability in Labor List (The WALL) for unpaid wage, benefit, and tax liabilities, bringing the total number of listed employers to 289. Placement on The WALL prohibits businesses from contracting with state, county, or local governments until all outstanding debts are resolved.
The newly listed businesses collectively owe $287,067.96 to the state’s Unemployment Compensation Fund and State Disability Benefits Fund. In total, companies on The WALL owe approximately $26.3 million. Since its launch in September 2023, the initiative has recovered nearly $692,454 in outstanding liabilities from companies posted or warned of posting.
Created in 2020 through bipartisan legislation, The WALL targets employers who underpay workers or avoid contributions to programs such as unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation, protecting compliant businesses from unfair competition. Businesses are given 20 days after receiving notice to pay or dispute their listing before being posted.
