Overnight Sidewalk Pressure Washing Scheduled for South Street and Nearby Side Streets

Work begins August 25 and continues into early September, with temporary parking restrictions and limited pedestrian access during nighttime cleaning hours.

The Town of Morristown has announced that overnight sidewalk and curb pressure washing will take place along portions of South Street and adjacent side streets in two phases beginning Monday, August 25, 2025. The work will be conducted by Under Pressure House Washing LLC and is expected to span three nights, weather permitting.

Phase 4 of the project will occur on Monday, August 25 and Tuesday, August 26, focusing on South Street, starting near Vail Mansion and progressing toward the Town Hall or Morristown Green. Phase 5 is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, and will address side streets including Market Street, DeHart Street, Community Place, Pine Street, Elm Street, and Madison Street.

Work hours will run overnight from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. During this time, sidewalks will remain accessible for pedestrian passage where safe, though access may be limited within the active work zones.

Key conditions during the work period include:

  • No parking in designated areas during overnight work hours. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance.

  • The road will remain open to vehicular traffic throughout the project.

  • Residents and businesses should expect hoses, vehicles, and workers operating with water sourced from SMCMUA fire hydrants.

Hydrant Use Advisory

Similar to routine hydrant flushing, the use of hydrants for pressure washing may temporarily affect water conditions in nearby areas. Residents may observe:

  • A temporary drop in water pressure

  • Discolored water caused by sediment disturbance (typically iron or manganese)

These conditions are temporary and not hazardous. The town has provided several precautionary tips:

  • Avoid water use during overnight hours when work is active.

  • If water appears discolored, run cold water for several minutes until clear.

  • Check water clarity before doing laundry and use rust remover if staining occurs.

  • Persistent low pressure may indicate trapped sediment in faucet aerators.

Guidance for Businesses and Residents

Local businesses and property owners are encouraged to remove any movable sidewalk furniture prior to cleaning to allow for thorough washing. On-street parking will be reinstated during daytime hours.

All scheduling is subject to weather conditions and on-site coordination. Residents are encouraged to remain aware of posted signage and plan accordingly during the designated work periods.
