Overnight Sidewalk Cleaning Set for MLK Avenue and Washington Street August 17–18

Two-night pressure washing project will temporarily restrict parking and pedestrian access on key downtown Morristown corridors.

The Town of Morristown has scheduled overnight sidewalk and curb pressure washing on Martin Luther King Avenue, Spring Street, and Washington Street for Sunday, August 17 and Monday, August 18, 2025, weather permitting. The work, part of the town’s ongoing downtown maintenance program, will be performed by Under Pressure House Washing LLC during nighttime hours from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

Crews will begin work on Martin Luther King Avenue and Spring Street, then move onto Washington Street during the second night.

The cleaning is expected to cause temporary parking restrictions and limited sidewalk access during work hours. While pedestrian pass-through will be allowed when deemed safe, sidewalks in the active cleaning zones may be partially obstructed. Access to buildings and properties will remain open.

Motorists and residents should note:

  • No on-street parking will be permitted in designated work zones during overnight hours.

  • “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance, and daytime parking will be restored each morning.

  • Roads will remain open to through traffic throughout the operation.

Water Use Advisory

As part of the work, crews will use water sourced from SMCMUA fire hydrants, similar to routine hydrant flushing. Temporary water effects may include:

  • A drop in water pressure

  • Discolored water caused by disturbed sediment (typically iron or manganese)

These changes are not harmful to health. However, residents are advised to:

  • Avoid using tap water or appliances like washing machines and dishwashers during overnight hours.

  • Run cold water for several minutes if discoloration is noticed.

  • Check water clarity before doing laundry and use rust remover if needed.

  • Inspect faucet aerators if pressure remains low.

Resident and Business Reminders

Businesses and property owners along affected streets are asked to remove any movable street furniture before the scheduled work nights to allow crews full access to clean the sidewalks.

This cleaning effort is part of a phased maintenance program aiming to improve walkability and cleanliness throughout downtown Morristown. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change based on site conditions and coordination.
