RevolutionNJ Race Series to Stop at Princeton Battlefield on September 7

Commemorative 5K and family fun walk will honor Revolutionary War history while encouraging community participation and wellness.

PRINCETON, NJ — The RevolutionNJ Race Series, part of New Jersey’s official effort to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, will continue this fall with a 5K race and one-mile family fun walk at Princeton Battlefield State Park on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

The event marks the third installment in the 2025 RevolutionNJ Race Series, following races held at Croft Farm and Pennypacker Park in Haddonfield in June and Monmouth Battlefield State Park earlier this month. The series is organized by RevolutionNJ, a joint initiative of the New Jersey Historical Commission and the nonprofit Crossroads of the American Revolution, designed to connect communities with the state's Revolutionary War legacy ahead of the nation’s bicentennial in 2026.

Participants in the Princeton race will traverse the grounds of the Princeton Battlefield, a pivotal site where American forces led by General George Washington defeated British troops in early January 1777. This victory concluded a critical ten-day campaign that began with Washington’s famous crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas night.

All registrants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, while those completing the 5K will also receive a finisher’s medal. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners in each ten-year age bracket. Registration fees are $35 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile walk.

According to event organizers, the race series is intended to highlight the value of New Jersey’s historic sites not just as landmarks of the past, but as public spaces that support community engagement and well-being.

Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way, who oversees the New Jersey Historical Commission in her capacity as Secretary of State, noted: “The RevolutionNJ Race Series highlights the importance of New Jersey’s historic sites and parks as not only places of remembrance, but also as public spaces that foster community health and well-being.”

Sara Cureton, Executive Director of the New Jersey Historical Commission, emphasized the event’s broad appeal: “Last year, the RevolutionNJ Race Series brought together a multigenerational crowd to commemorate New Jersey’s history. We look forward to another wonderful year of connecting New Jerseyans with their past, whether they are avid historians, recreational runners, or families looking for new ways to get outside on the weekend.”

Carrie Fellows, Executive Director of the Crossroads of the American Revolution, linked the event to its historical inspiration: “Inspired by Jonas Cattell’s legendary run to warn American troops of a British attack at Red Bank Battlefield, the RevolutionNJ Race Series connects New Jersey’s revolutionary past to its present.
