Morris Plains Chinese New Year Celebration

Join Morris Plains resident Mary Chao in celebrating the Year of the Rabbit on Saturday, February 4th with story time, crafts, and snacks at the Morris Plains Library from 11 AM to 1 PM.

The event is free and open to the public.

Learn more about the history of the Lunar New Year as Mary reads from Eugenia Chiu's "Chinese New Year."

An immigrant from Taipei, Taiwan with family roots in Shanghai, Mary will share some of her own family's New Year traditions and superstitions and discuss the rabbit's sign.

The library will be decked out in its New Year best with origami craft demonstrations around the library.

Kam Man Chinese Grocer in East Hanover will provide sweet New Year snacks.

Mary Chao is a journalist of over three decades currently a specialty reporter at Scripps National News. She is married to a Marine Colonel and the proud mom of a college girl.
