"Imagine the Possibilities" Event at Summerhill Park
MADISON, NJ – The Madison Open Space, Recreation & Historic Preservation Advisory Committee (OSRHP) invites the community to celebrate National Trails Day® on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., with a special event titled “Summerhill Park and the Central Green – Imagine the Possibilities.”
This event encourages residents to explore Madison’s vast natural beauty and nearly two miles of scenic trails across its open space properties. Attendees will enjoy a guided walk through Summerhill Park, Madison’s second-largest park, and The Central Green, highlighting the community’s recent Parks Master Plan and vision for enhanced connectivity and park amenities. The event will begin at the Summerhill Park parking lot off Ridgedale Avenue.
“Madison is fortunate to have such rich open space so close to our neighborhoods,” said Councilwoman Melissa Honohan. “National Trails Day® is a perfect opportunity to celebrate these resources, share the vision for their future, and enjoy time outdoors with our neighbors.”
Summerhill Park, located between Ridgedale and Central Avenues, spans 26 wooded acres and features gentle, hilly trails, picnic areas, and access points from DeHart Place, Central Avenue, and Ridgedale Avenue. Its historical and natural features include the Luke Miller House, the oldest structure in Madison, and remnants of old greenhouses from the borough’s days as a hub for the commercial rose industry.
