According to officials, starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 24, until 7 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, NJDOT's contractor, IEW Construction Inc., will close all lanes on I-78 westbound Express from milepost 51.4 to milepost 50.6. Motorists traveling on I-78 westbound Express will be redirected onto the I-78 westbound Local lanes at the crossover ramp for Route 24 westbound to I-287/Springfield/Morristown. Additionally, the left lane on I-78 westbound Local will be closed between mileposts 51.4 and 50.6 overnight at the same times.

To ensure traffic safety, the lane closure will allow traffic on I-78 westbound Express to merge onto I-78 westbound Local safely. However, at least two lanes will be maintained on I-78 westbound Local during construction.

The closure is part of a $5 million state-funded maintenance project aimed at repairing bridge infrastructure at various locations in eight counties throughout North Jersey.

Pulaski Skyway to have temporary closures tonight for pier work as rehabilitation project advances in Jersey City: Series of 10-minute traffic stoppages required in both directions.

Temporary Closures on Pulaski Skyway in Jersey City for Bridge Rehabilitation

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced a series of temporary closures on the Pulaski Skyway in both directions. These closures will take place on Friday night, February 24, 2023, as the rehabilitation of the historic 91-year-old bridge advances in Jersey City.

The closures are scheduled from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023, between the Broadway Avenue ramp and the truss bridge over the railroad tracks in Jersey City. NJDOT's contractor, Skanska Koch, will temporarily stop traffic eight times for approximately 10 minutes each time. This will allow the contractor to jack the Skyway at Pier 46 and begin bearing replacement and pier rehabilitation.

The work is part of Contract 8B of the Pulaski Skyway rehabilitation project, which is being advanced through multiple construction contracts. NJDOT is carefully coordinating the Pulaski Skyway project with other regional transportation infrastructure projects to minimize traffic congestion.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding the Pulaski Skyway project, you can contact the Project Outreach Team via the hotline telephone number, 973-776-7400, or email at Pulaski.Skyway@dot.nj.gov.

The Pulaski Skyway is a vital transportation artery that connects Newark and Jersey City. The rehabilitation project aims to improve the safety and reliability of the bridge for the thousands of motorists who use it daily.

Route 7/Wittpenn Bridge to be closed this weekend Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26: Closure necessary for lift span testing.

NJDOT Announces Weekend Closure of Route 7/Wittpenn Bridge for Lift Span Machinery Testing

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced a full closure of the Route 7/Wittpenn Bridge between Jersey City and Kearny as testing of the lift span machinery continues this weekend.

According to NJDOT, the closure will begin at 5 a.m. on Saturday, February 25 and continue until 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 26. The department's contractor, CCA Construction, is scheduled to close and detour Route 7 in both directions before the Wittpenn Bridge to test and make adjustments to the lift span machinery on the new bridge. However, if the work is completed early, the bridge will reopen sooner.

The Route 7/Wittpenn Bridge project replaced the existing bridge with a new, wider vertical lift bridge. This new bridge doubles the vertical clearance over the Hackensack River from 35-feet to 70-feet, resulting in fewer openings and less congestion.

The construction of the new bridge is being accomplished in five separate contracts, with the first three contracts already completed. They included advance utility work, building the Fish House Road Pump Station, roadway embankments, river piers, fender system, and a portion of the approach spans for the new vertical lift bridge. The fourth and fifth contracts are now nearing completion, with the Newark Avenue ramp in Jersey City, the last major element of the project, already opened on October 15, 2022.

Motorists who usually use the Route 7/Wittpenn Bridge are advised to use the detour
provided by NJDOT during the closure.

NJDOT Announces Lane Closures on Route 22 for Utility Work in Mountainside

New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials have revealed a series of lane closures on Route 22 in both directions over three successive weekends for utility work, as the Route 22 Bridge over Echo Lake Project progresses in Mountainside, Union County.

The closures will take place from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, with the left lane on Route 22 eastbound from New Providence Road/CR 645 to Locust Avenue, and the right lane on Route 22 westbound from Summit Road/CR 643 to Mountain Avenue/CR 613, set to be closed. These closures are necessary for utility work to be carried out.

NJDOT's contractor, Union Paving & Construction Co., will maintain at least one lane of traffic in each direction during construction. However, motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays, or plan an alternate route. NJDOT will provide notice prior to any future closures.

This work is part of a $9 million federally-funded project that aims to replace the culvert under the Route 22 Bridge over Echo Lake in Mountainside, Union County. The project will be completed in stages in order to maintain all travel lanes throughout the project, which is expected to be finished by the fall of 2024.
