All-Accessible Playground at Dodge Field, Madison

From the Town of Madison -

Beginning on or around July 5, 2024, Ben Shaffer Recreation will start the demolition and reconstruction of the All-Accessible Playground at Dodge Field.

The new playground will feature equipment for children of all abilities, including ADA-compliant swings, slides, and climbing structures. It will also include benches and utilize sustainable materials, such as recycled tire crumble for a safe playing surface. This project aims to transform Dodge Field, providing an inclusive recreation space and improving the quality of life for those needing ADA-compliant facilities in eastern Morris County.

The construction is expected to be completed by Fall 2024.

During this period, the playground area will be fenced off and inaccessible to the public, including the Greenwood Avenue entrance. Restrooms and the water fountain will remain accessible from the rear but may be temporarily unavailable at times.

We understand that the summer closure may be inconvenient, but we look forward to providing an improved playground for decades to come. Thank you for your cooperation as we work to bring this All-Accessible Playground to Madison and eastern Morris County!

*Please note the work is weather-dependent and subject to change. Updates, as they become available will be posted to this webpage, and as necessary relayed through borough social media and AlertMadison notifications.

Funding for this project has been made possible thanks to the following funding partners: Morris County Community Development Block Grant, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (Jake's Law), New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, and Madison Open Space Recreation and Historic Preservation Trust
