Investigation Reveals Alleged Inappropriate Online Conversations with Student

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – A Parsippany High School teacher has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation into allegations that he engaged in inappropriate online conversations with a 14-year-old student, Morris County authorities announced.

James Wiegand, 43, of Sparta, was charged on March 13, 2025, with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a third-degree crime under N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(a)(1). The charge follows a joint investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department.

Allegations and Investigation

The case came to light in November 2024, when a Parsippany High School administrator reported concerns to law enforcement regarding alleged inappropriate behavior by Wiegand. Authorities determined that between September 2024 and November 2024, Wiegand allegedly sent sexual and suggestive messages to a student via Instagram.

Following the allegations, Wiegand was suspended from his teaching position pending further legal proceedings.

Legal Proceedings and Pre-Trial Conditions

Wiegand was released under pre-trial supervision with the following conditions:

  • Pre-trial monitoring level 2
  • No contact with the victim
  • No unsupervised contact with minor children

He is scheduled to appear in court on April 21, 2025, before the Honorable Robert Hanna, J.S.C.
