AG’s Office Investigating Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Woodbridge Township, N.J.
AG Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting that Took Place in Woodbridge Twp on May 29, 2025
The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 29, 2025, in Woodbridge Township, in Middlesex County. The civilian who died during the encounter has been identified as Aamir Allen, 35, of Carteret, New Jersey.
According to the preliminary investigation, at approximately 1:00 a.m., police officers from the Woodbridge Police Department were dispatched to a residence on East Tappen Street in the Port Reading section of Woodbridge, in response to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute.
Mr. Allen left the area of the residence on East Tappen Street and traveled on foot eastbound along Port Reading Avenue to a convenience store in Port Reading. During an encounter with Mr. Allen, who was holding a baseball bat, outside the store, Woodbridge Police Sergeant Marco Bruno fired his service weapon. Mr. Allen was wounded and was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick at approximately 1:40 a.m. for treatment of his injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 9:21 a.m.
A 2019 law, N.J.S.A. 52:17B-107(a)(2), requires the Attorney General’s Office to conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody. It requires that all such investigations be presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence supports the return of an indictment against the officer or officers involved.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
