Morris Knolls Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault of Student

Former tutor allegedly assaulted 17-year-old student off-campus; investigation ongoing

A Morris Knolls High School teacher has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation by Morris County law enforcement authorities. The charges stem from alleged incidents involving a 17-year-old student that occurred earlier this year at the teacher's residence in Rockaway Township.

According to a June 9 announcement by Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, the investigation began in March 2025 after a school administrator reported concerns of inappropriate behavior to the Denville Police Department and the Prosecutor’s Office. The accused, Alyssa Perry, 35, of Rockaway Township, is a current teacher at Morris Knolls High School and had previously served as a tutor to the student involved. At the time of the alleged incidents, Perry was employed at the school, which the victim also attends.

Authorities allege that Perry sexually assaulted the student on two occasions between February and March 2025 at her home. Following the investigation, Perry was formally charged on June 6 with two second-degree counts of Sexual Assault (N.J.S.A. 2C:12-2c3b) and one third-degree count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(a)(1)).

Perry has been placed on suspension from her teaching position. She was released under pre-trial supervision, with conditions including high-level monitoring, no contact with the victim, no access to the school, and no interaction with any students. Her court appearance is scheduled for July 14, 2025, before Judge Ralph Amirata.

The investigation remains active, and officials have not released additional details. Law enforcement agencies involved include the Rockaway Township Police Department, Denville Police Department, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit.

Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit at 973-285-6200.

Authorities emphasize that the charges are accusations and that Alyssa Perry is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
