Wharton Man Charged After Armed Robbery at Dover Deli

Suspect allegedly pointed handgun at customer and staff before fleeing with cash; arrested within 24 hours following inter-agency investigation

DOVER, N.J. – Dwayne A. Brown, 27, of Wharton, has been charged in connection with the armed robbery of a deli on Richards Avenue in Dover on the morning of Saturday, June 28, 2025. The incident led to a swift arrest following a coordinated investigation by multiple Morris County law enforcement agencies.

At approximately 11 a.m., a masked suspect entered the deli, aimed a handgun at a customer and two employees, and demanded money. The employees surrendered $360 in cash before the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Brown was apprehended on June 29 and is now facing multiple charges: three counts of first-degree robbery, one count each of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and three counts of fourth-degree aggravated assault for pointing a firearm at individuals.

He is currently held at the Morris County Correctional Facility, with a detention hearing scheduled for July 3 under the Criminal Justice Reform Act.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll credited the rapid arrest to the combined efforts of the Dover and Wharton Police Departments, the Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Special Operations units.

Prosecutor Carroll said:The public should be assured that crimes of violence will be met with a coordinated, persistent, and effective police response until resolution.”

A criminal complaint is an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
