Florham Park Woman Charged with Murder Following Death of Three-Year-Old Girl
Authorities allege child was found unresponsive in a bathtub; investigation led to first-degree murder and child endangerment charges.
A 43-year-old Florham Park woman has been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree child endangerment following the July 6 death of a three-year-old girl at a private residence on Woods End Road, according to a joint statement issued by Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and other law enforcement officials.
At approximately 10:41 p.m. on the evening of July 6, Florham Park Police Department (FPPD) officers responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive woman at the residence. The woman, identified as Jeanine Glass, was located on the first floor by first responders and was observed to be wet and unconscious. Emergency medical personnel administered care and transported her to a nearby hospital.
While assisting a family member upstairs during the response, police discovered a three-year-old girl face-down and unresponsive in a hallway bathroom bathtub containing several inches of water. Despite immediate life-saving efforts at the scene and during hospital transport, the child was later pronounced dead. A postmortem examination is being conducted by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Following a multi-agency investigation involving the FPPD, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Glass was formally charged on July 22. She faces charges of first-degree murder under N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1) and (2), and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child under N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2). Glass was taken into custody upon her hospital discharge and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility, where she remains pending future court proceedings under the guidelines of the Criminal Justice Reform Act.
In a public statement, Prosecutor Carroll described the incident as “a heartbreaking and senseless loss,” urging the community to respond with “discretion and compassion.” Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando commended the cooperation among agencies and recognized the efforts of local investigators and the county’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Prosecutor Carroll said, “The death of the little girl is a heartbreaking and senseless loss for the Florham Park community. Our hearts go out to all those coping with this unconscionable tragedy, including loved ones and first responders who answered the call that night. For the sake of the surviving family, we ask that citizens exercise discretion and compassion while discussing the situation on social media. Please remember that these are real people, your neighbors, involved here.”
Authorities emphasize that criminal charges are formal accusations and that Glass is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
