Wall Township Man Pleads Guilty to Armed Bank Robbery in Federal Court

Jeffrey L. Kniffin admits to using a loaded handgun during the 2024 heist; sentencing set for November.

TRENTON, NJ — July 24, 2025 — A Monmouth County man has pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery in connection with an October 2024 incident in Wall Township during which he threatened a bank teller with a loaded handgun and stole over $27,000 in cash, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced.

Jeffrey L. Kniffin, 51, of Wall Township, entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi on July 22, 2025, to one count of armed bank robbery, as charged in a criminal Information filed in federal court.

Incident Details

According to court documents and statements made in court, the robbery took place on October 23, 2024, when Kniffin entered a local bank in Wall Township armed with a loaded handgun. He approached the teller, demanded money, and explicitly warned, “Don’t do anything stupid” multiple times while removing the handgun from his pocket and displaying it.

The teller handed over approximately $27,072 in cash, and Kniffin fled the bank. He was apprehended within minutes by law enforcement. Upon arrest, officers recovered both the loaded firearm and more than $25,000 in cash from Kniffin and the surrounding area.

Potential Sentence

The federal charge of armed bank robbery carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for November 24, 2025.

Investigating Agencies

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), led by Special Agent in Charge Stefanie Roddy in Newark. Additional assistance came from the Wall Township Police Department, under Chief Sean O’Halloran, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, under Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Garelick, of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Criminal Division in Trenton, is representing the government in this matter.
