Fourth ICE Detainee Charged in Newark Facility Escape Appears in Federal Court

Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon, arrested in Los Angeles, was the final escapee apprehended after a June 2025 breakout from Delaney Hall detention center.

NEWARK, N.J. — The fourth and final individual charged in the June 2025 escape from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Newark has appeared in federal court following his arrest last month, Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced.

Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon, 25, of Colombia, made his initial appearance on August 18, 2025, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Hammer in Newark federal court. Pineda Mogollon had been apprehended in Los Angeles on July 17, over a month after the escape.

He is charged by complaint with escape from the custody of an institution or officer, a federal offense punishable by up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

According to court documents, the escape occurred on or about June 12, 2025, at Delaney Hall, a privately operated immigration detention facility in Newark, where the four defendants were being held pending removal proceedings.

The defendants—Franklin Norberto Bautista Reyes, 20, of Honduras; Joan Sebastian Castaneda Lozada, 18, of Colombia; Joel Enrrique Sandoval-Lopez, 22, of Honduras; and Pineda Mogollon—allegedly escaped by:

  • Breaking through a second-story aluminum wall

  • Dropping mattresses through the opening to cushion their fall

  • Using bed sheets to cover barbed wire atop the facility’s fence

The three other escapees were apprehended in New Jersey between June 15 and June 16, 2025.

All four individuals now face federal charges for escape from custody. The complaint emphasizes that all charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case continues under the jurisdiction of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and no sentencing or trial dates have been announced as of this release.
