Jeffrey Kniffin brandished a loaded handgun during a $27,000 heist in Monmouth County before being apprehended minutes later with cash and weapon in hand.

A Wall Township man has been sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for committing an armed bank robbery in Monmouth County, Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba announced.

Jeffrey L. Kniffin, 51, pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi on July 22, 2025. The sentence was imposed on November 24, 2025, in Trenton federal court.

Details of the Robbery

According to court records and statements made during proceedings, Kniffin entered a Wall Township bank on October 23, 2024, armed with a loaded handgun. He approached a teller, demanded money, and displayed the weapon during the interaction, repeatedly instructing the teller, “Don’t do anything stupid.”

Kniffin obtained approximately $27,072 in cash before fleeing the scene. Law enforcement officers arrested him within minutes, recovering the loaded handgun and more than $25,000 in cash from Kniffin and his immediate surroundings.

Sentencing

In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Quraishi imposed:

  • Three years of supervised release following incarceration

  • Forfeiture of the firearm and robbery proceeds

  • Restitution of $1,938 to account for unrecovered funds

The investigation was led by task force officers with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Newark Division, under Special Agent in Charge Stefanie Roddy. Additional support came from the Wall Township Police Department, led by Chief Sean O’Halloran, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, under Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Garelick of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Trenton.

Kniffin is currently in federal custody and will serve his sentence in a facility to be designated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
