Utility Company Announces Water Main Construction to Begin on Spring St, Ferndale Rd, & Wexford Rd

New Jersey American Water, a private utility company, has informed the Township of Chatham of imminent plans to replace the aging water main systems, originally installed in the 1930s, that run along Spring Street, Ferndale Road, and Wexford Road. Work on Spring Street will be concentrated between Dale Drive & Lafayette Ave. Work on Ferndale Road and Wexford Road will be concentrated between Shunpike Road and Warwick Road.

The work on Spring Street is expected to begin the week of March 4th, and the work on Ferndale and Wexford Road is expected to begin the week of March 11th, weather permitting. Work is expected to be completed by the end of April. Final repaving will take place in Fall of 2026. Be aware that while work is occurring, road closures and detours will be in place to help ensure the safety of the workers, so please plan travel accordingly as traffic will be impacted.

In addition to replacing the water main, the project will also upgrade the fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines along the main. Properties that will be affected by the service line replacement will be contacted by New Jersey American Water for more information.

For complete details on the scope of the project, please see the attached notices from New Jersey American Water below.
