Atlantic Health System's Morristown Medical Center Named Among World's Best Hospitals by Newsweek
Morristown Medical Center Ranked Highest of all New Jersey hospitals
FEBRUARY 28, 2024 – MORRISTOWN and SUMMIT, NJ – For the sixth consecutive year Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center rank among the world’s best hospitals according to Newsweek. Today the publisher, in partnership with market and consumer data analytics company Statista Inc., named both hospitals to their list of the World’s Best Hospitals. In addition, both Morristown and Overlook are ranked among the Best Hospitals for Infection Prevention and Best Patient Experience in 2024.
More than 2,400 hospitals are included in this year’s list, including more than 400 hospitals in the United States. Of the US hospitals ranked by Newsweek, Morristown is ranked #47 – the highest ranking of any New Jersey hospital, and Overlook is ranked #174. These two Atlantic Health System medical centers join the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Johns Hopkins among others on this prestigious list.
Newsweek and Statista partnered to develop a rigorous methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Four data sources were used for the evaluation:
- Recommendations from Medical Experts: an online survey among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals, and hospital managers in 30 countries
- Results from Patient Surveys: survey of patient satisfaction with hospitalization
- Hospital Quality Metrics: medical indicators e.g., data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety, and waiting times.
- PROMs Implementation: optional online survey on the implementation and use of Patient Reported Outcome Measures surveys in hospitals
In 2021, Newsweek added a dimension for infection prevention to award US hospitals that performed better than the national average regarding healthcare associated infections. Both Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center achieved this distinction for the fourth year in a row.
“We are incredibly proud to once again be recognized as one of the world’s best hospitals by Newsweek,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president, Morristown Medical Center. “This achievement is a testament to our resolute physicians, nurses and team members who deliver extraordinary, high-quality care to our patients that is beyond measure. Our patients, their families and loved ones, and the communities that we serve depend on us to deliver the latest advancements in specialized care and know that we do so with compassion.”
“The experience that patients have at Overlook is the work of our entire team – starting with the greeter at the door, to the physicians, nurses, technicians, therapists, environmental and food service teams who strive to make every moment and interaction positive,” said Stephanie Schwartz, president of Overlook Medical Center. “When we are recognized six years in a row among the World’s Best, it’s a reflection of our team’s commitment to quality, safety and exceptional care at Overlook.”
The World's Best Hospitals 2024 list recognizes the best medical institutions across 30 countries: USA, Germany, Japan, France, Italy, United Kingdom, South Korea, Brazil, India, Spain, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Colombia, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Malaysia, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Israel, Singapore.
