Morristown Man Convicted of Multiple Counts of Child Sexual Abuse
Alexander Masariego-Flores faces life-altering penalties after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing a child over several months.
A Morris County jury has convicted Alexander Masariego-Flores, 45, formerly of Morristown, New Jersey, of multiple sexual offenses against a child, including three counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault. The verdict, delivered on December 6, 2024, came after a three-day trial presided over by Judge Claudia R. Jones, J.S.C.
Masariego-Flores was found guilty of three counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault, and two counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was acquitted of one additional count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault.
Details of the Case
The charges stem from incidents that occurred between February and September 2023, during which Masariego-Flores sexually abused a child repeatedly at her home in Morristown. Evidence presented at trial also revealed that one instance of abuse took place in the presence of another child.
The Morristown Police Department first became aware of the abuse on September 16, 2023, following a referral. A subsequent investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit and the Morristown Police Department led to Masariego-Flores’s arrest and indictment.
Sentencing and Legal Consequences
Masariego-Flores remains in custody and faces sentencing on February 21, 2025. Under the Jessica Lunsford Act, his convictions for Aggravated Sexual Assault will carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years without parole. Additionally, his Sexual Assault convictions are subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA), requiring him to serve at least 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Upon release, Masariego-Flores will also be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to lifetime parole supervision.
