Morristown Man Sentenced to 46 Years for Aggravated Sexual Assault of Child
Alexander Masariego-Flores, convicted in December 2024, must serve 85% of his sentence before eligibility for parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act.
A Morristown man has been sentenced to 46 years in New Jersey State Prison following his conviction for multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to an announcement by Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally, and Morristown Chief of Police Darnell Richardson.
Alexander Masariego-Flores, 45, formerly of Morristown, was convicted on December 6, 2024, after a three-day trial. The charges included three counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault, and two counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The conviction stems from the repeated sexual abuse of an eight-year-old child between February and September 2023.
On April 25, 2025, the Honorable Claudia R. Jones, J.S.C., sentenced Masariego-Flores to 46 years in prison. Under the No Early Release Act, he must serve at least 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. Following his release, Masariego-Flores will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to lifetime parole supervision. He is also barred from contacting the victim and the victim’s family.
The case began on September 16, 2023, when the Morristown Police Department received a referral regarding potential child sexual abuse. An ensuing investigation, conducted jointly by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit and the Morristown Police Department, revealed that Masariego-Flores had sexually abused the child on multiple occasions at a Morristown residence and, on one occasion, in the presence of another child.
Prosecutor Carroll expressed gratitude to the Morristown Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Department, and the Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit for their work on the case. He also acknowledged the support of Deirdre’s House and the Morris County Multidisciplinary Team. The trial team, consisting of Assistant Prosecutor Alyssa DiSturco, Assistant Prosecutor Tina DiFranco, and Detective Raquelin Perea, was commended for their efforts leading to the conviction.
