Tewksbury Township Man Charged with Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

David Tuytjens, already under lifetime supervision for prior sex offenses, allegedly found with hundreds of illicit images and videos on electronic storage device.

TEWKSBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 69-year-old man from Tewksbury Township, David Tuytjens, has been charged with possession of child pornography following the discovery of hundreds of illicit images and videos on an electronic storage device during a parole compliance check, according to U.S. Attorney Alina Habba.

Tuytjens, who is under Community Supervision for Life due to prior convictions for aggravated sexual assault and possession of child pornography, was prohibited from owning internet-capable devices. In December 2024, officers from the New Jersey State Parole Board conducted a routine visit to his residence and found a 64-gigabyte MicroSD card inserted into a laptop.

A forensic examination of the storage card revealed approximately 800 images and 30 video files containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The material includes depictions of prepubescent minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, sadistic or masochistic abuse, and the exploitation of infants or toddlers, according to court filings.

Tuytjens was charged via a one-count federal complaint and made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Rukhsanah L. Singh in Trenton federal court, where he was ordered detained pending further proceedings.

Because of his prior convictions, Tuytjens faces enhanced penalties if convicted, including a mandatory minimum of 10 years in federal prison and up to 20 years, as well as a potential fine of $250,000.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force (Newark Office), in coordination with the New Jersey State Parole Board and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office. The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Garelick of the Criminal Division in Trenton.

Authorities stress that the charges are merely accusations, and Tuytjens is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
