Elizabeth Man Sentenced to 15 Years’ Imprisonment for Spree of Armed Robberies

A Union County resident has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for committing a series of armed robberies across multiple jurisdictions, including Monmouth and Middlesex counties, using a stolen vehicle and a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Dayshawn Brimfield, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi in Trenton federal court following his guilty plea to five federal charges. These include one count each of bank robbery, interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, and use of a firearm during a crime of violence, along with two counts of Hobbs Act robbery. In addition to the prison sentence, Brimfield will serve five years of supervised release and must pay restitution to his victims.

According to court records and statements made during proceedings, Brimfield’s criminal activity began on April 2, 2021, with a bank robbery in Hazlet, New Jersey. During that incident, Brimfield handed a threatening note to a teller stating, “This is a Robbery I have a Gun I will Kill Someone if you do not follow these instructions.”

On April 17, 2021, Brimfield stole a vehicle in Elizabeth, which was later used as a getaway car in two subsequent armed robberies on April 20. That day, he targeted a convenience store in Aberdeen, New Jersey, where he showed a handgun to the cashier before stealing cash. Hours later, he robbed another convenience store in South Plainfield, pointing the weapon at a cashier, stealing their wallet and phone, and emptying the register before fleeing the scene.

Brimfield then fled New Jersey in the stolen vehicle and was apprehended in Lancaster County, Nebraska, after leading law enforcement on a brief high-speed pursuit that ended when he crashed into a fence.

The sentencing follows an investigation coordinated by the FBI’s Newark Division, Red Bank Resident Agency; the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office; Hazlet and South Plainfield Police Departments; and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander E. Ramey of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Criminal Division in Trenton prosecuted the case.
