Multiple Road Construction Projects Cause Lane Closures Across Morris County

Daytime construction activity along I-287, US 46, NJ 23, NJ 15, NJ 124, and I-80 is expected to affect traffic flow through 3:00 PM, with varying lane and shoulder closures in several townships.

As of this morning, Tuesday, June 3, multiple active road construction projects are impacting major roadways throughout Morris County, New Jersey. These ongoing efforts involve both lane and shoulder closures on interstates, U.S. highways, and state routes, and are anticipated to last until mid-afternoon, with some continuing through later dates in June.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation has scheduled several construction activities along Interstate 287, a key north-south corridor in Morris County. On the southbound side:

  • At Exit 41 (I-80 interchange) in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, the left lane is closed until 3:00 PM.

  • From just south of Exit 41 to north of Exit 40 (CR 511/Parsippany Road), the right shoulder remains closed until 3:00 PM.

  • Additionally, near Exit 40, a separate shoulder closure is in effect through the same time.

  • In Montville Township, a right shoulder closure is reported near Exit 47 (US 202).

On the northbound side of I-287, multiple right shoulder closures are in effect:

  • Between north of Exit 40 and south of Exit 41 in Parsippany-Troy Hills.

  • Near Exit 40 in Parsippany-Troy Hills.

  • Near Exit 47 in Montville Township.

Construction is also underway along U.S. Route 46, affecting both directions of travel:

  • In Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, the westbound left lane is closed near CR 654/Cherry Hill Road until 3:00 PM.

  • In Denville Township, the eastbound right shoulder is closed near NJ 53, and the westbound right shoulder is closed in the same area.

  • Between Denville and Mountain Lakes, the eastbound and westbound right shoulders remain closed near CR 618/Mountain Lakes Boulevard.

Other significant closures include:

  • On NJ Route 23:

    • In Butler, the southbound left lane is closed near Maple Lake Road until 3:00 PM.

    • In Riverdale, the northbound right shoulder is closed near Cotluss Road through the afternoon.

  • On NJ Route 15, in Jefferson Township, the northbound right lane is closed between NJ 181/Espanong Road/Weldon Road and Main Street in Sparta Township until 2:00 PM.

  • On NJ Route 124, in Chatham, all lanes remain open on the westbound side at Roosevelt Avenue/Minton Avenue, although construction is active until 3:00 PM.

Lastly, work continues along Interstate 80 in Wharton:

  • On the westbound side, near Exit 34 (NJ 15), one of three left lanes is closed until 12:00 PM on June 25.

  • On the eastbound side, near the same interchange, one left lane is also closed and is scheduled to reopen at 10:00 PM on June 25.

Motorists traveling through these areas should expect potential delays and are advised to use alternate routes where feasible. The construction activities are part of routine maintenance and infrastructure improvement projects aimed at enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency.
