Over 7,000 JCP&L Customers Lose Power During Heat Wave Across New Jersey
A planned outage in Morris County and widespread disruptions in Ocean County contribute to outages amid high temperatures
More than 7,000 Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) customers across New Jersey are without electricity as of the morning of June 24, 2025, coinciding with an ongoing heat wave affecting the region.
JCP&L reported a total of 7,043 outages statewide. Of those, the largest concentration—6,674 customers—are located in Ocean County, representing approximately 2.59% of the county's serviced population. Other affected counties include Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren, though with significantly smaller impacts.
In Morris County, 141 customers are without power. A planned outage, initiated by JCP&L this morning, contributed to these figures. The utility temporarily shut off service to approximately 2,200 customers for an estimated one to two hours to repair a damaged utility pole. This maintenance was necessary to address a broken pole top identified during routine checks.
The affected areas were divided into two circuits. The first circuit includes neighborhoods centered around Brittany Road, Avalon Drive, Arthur Place, Independence Court, Changebridge Road, Charlemagne Place, Tristan Place, Lorraine Drive, and Cheryl Road in Montville. The second circuit impacted areas included Henry Beach Court, Boyletown Road, Foremost Mountain Road, Bromley Court, Church Lane, Cliff Road, Doremus Drive, Douglas Drive, Fox Hollow Road, and Hickory Drive.
The brief but necessary outage took place in the morning hours to minimize disruption and avoid peak afternoon temperatures. No unplanned outages were reported in Roxbury Township, Victory Gardens, Wharton Borough, or Washington Township at the time of reporting.
JCP&L has not issued further statements regarding restoration times for outages outside the scheduled maintenance. Customers are advised to monitor the JCP&L outage map or contact the utility directly for updates.
