Nearly 3,000 JCP&L Customers Without Power in NJ as Heat Wave Intensifies

Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for Morris and surrounding counties with heat index up to 105°F

Amid an ongoing heat wave gripping much of New Jersey, nearly 3,000 Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) customers are without electricity as of June 25, 2025, complicating efforts to stay safe during dangerous temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Morris, Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, Sussex, Warren, and Hunterdon counties, in effect until 8:00 p.m. EDT.

The outages are most heavily concentrated in Ocean County, where 1,365 customers are affected, followed by Middlesex (777), Monmouth (517), and Morris County (273). Within Morris County, Mendham Borough and Mendham Township account for a combined total of 241 outages.

Current heat index values in the region are expected to reach up to 105°F. Authorities are warning that heat-related illnesses significantly increase during such events and urge residents to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned spaces, avoid direct sunlight, and check on vulnerable neighbors and family members. People without access to cooling or shelter are advised to call 211 for assistance in locating cooling centers.

With continued high heat and humidity expected, power outages can exacerbate health risks, particularly for seniors, children, and those with pre-existing conditions. No timetable has been given for full power restoration, and residents are advised to monitor official channels for updates.
